fave finds 3

I'm so proud of myself that I could write three editions of Fave Finds this week! I have met one of my goals for this week. Okay, onto the items. I noticed that today's finds were all home related.

I love this mug with a side car. How cool is this mug? I never know where to place my teabag and now I do!

Silvia66
I love chunky yarn and I love scarves. Put the two together and I'm in even more love. It looks fairly simple and something that I could probably make myself, but I love the look!

Another love of mine are napkins. I'm picky with napkins but lately I've found a lot of them that I like. These four are amongst them.

I am not gifted with a green thumb but I love the color and warmth that plants can bring to the home. I have been thinking about getting some airplants (which sound very low maintenance) and one of the best parts is you can put them in pretty much anything to display them. Take these suspended globes, for instance. There they are, swinging in the breeze and being fed at the same time. Wonderful.

soup, strands, and shelving

It's finally beginning to feel a little more like winter this week. I put some soup together to warm up one evening. The above soup includes veggies with gimme lean sausage and baby kale. Yum yum! I've also started to think about Valentine's Day for my home and the shop. A while ago, I had ordered some hearts and stars cut out from vintage dictionaries and music sheets. For months I have seen great paper garlands and decided to make some of my own with the hearts and stars I ordered. I finished a few strands of them. Unfortunately, my sewing machine decided to crap out on me again and until it is fixed, I am stranded (no pun intended) without a machine to complete them.

I am a fan of using free items whenever I can. I had picked up these black shelves from a free pile in our building a few months ago and just couldn't decide where to put them. This week I decided to add them to my collage above the dresser. This is how it turned out! The drawing in the blond frame was done by one of my friends for Ryan and I one year anniversary. I love the collection of all of these items.

Here is the second edition of Fave Finds this week.

ZenThreads

I've started to favorite Zen Threads items on Etsy for the past few items. I love their graphics and knowing their items are sweatshop free make me feel even better about purchasing their items. I'm a sucker for t-shirts and sweatshirts, so I will probably be posting a lot of these in the coming weeks.

Paper Face Studio

This brass vintage locket is a great necklace! I love that it has room to put a personalized message inside of it. This gives me ideas for Valentine's Day. Hmmmm...

StitchAndGrain
I know that these are easy and you can wander into the woods and get your own, but I still love the simplicity of small slices of wood.

In my first post of the year, one of the goals I listed was to post about some of my favorite items that I found on Etsy that day. Here is the first installment.

less is more
A friend of mine had posted these pants on another friend's wall on Facebook. I thought, how great are these? I love the double waistband look with the large buttons. I have a pair similar to this and they are so comfy.

Ruby Red Design Studio
For a long time, I carried a large year planner with me. I faithfully wrote in it nearly every day, keeping track of my activities. As my dresser drawer began to fill with calendars of years past and I moved multiple times, I became more reliant upon my electronic calendar rather than a physical copy. However, this simple, typographic calendar caught my eye as something that would be nice home or office decor and help me keep track of the date without being tethered to my computer.

domestic charm
I don't know what it is about baker's twine that makes me want to whip up cupcakes and caramels by the dozen. It's a good staple for any crafty person, used to wrap up gifts or use for tiny bunting.

Recycled Relics
Someday when I own a house, I would like to put these up in the kitchen or bathroom, ceiling or wall. A coat of paint and they would definitely be an attractive interest in the house.

That's it for my first finds of the week. I will post again later this week.

happy new year!

I hope that everyone had a safe and happy new year! Last night I played around with glass etching. My cousin at Life, Love, Green has done some crafts with it and so I wanted to give it a shot. The above is my first result; it's not exactly what I wanted. However, I like the somewhat rustic effect that I ended up with. (The plaid pieces are what's left from another craft that I have been working on. It will be featured in a later post.) T&E is short for TurtandElephant, the name of this blog as well as our shop. I am toying with using a variation of this sketch for branding purposes.

I have a few goals that I would like to work on this year as far as the shop and blog go:
  1. Brand the items I sell in my shop.
  2. Make at least 1 DIY post per month in this blog.
  3. Make at least 4 step-by-step instructions for something that I have made for the home.
  4. Feature items or stores from Etsy where I have found something that I enjoy, at least 3-4 days per week.
I can't expect perfection from myself, but I look forward to working on these goals this year.
