second annual ornament exchange

Hey folks! I would love to offer to organize the second annual ornament exchange. I hope that you can join us!

Since living on my own the past few years, I have been slowly amassing home decor items. One of the items I sorely lacked was during Christmas--ornaments. This was even more apparent to me two years ago when I only had enough ornaments to decorate the front half of the Christmas tree. I have a few more this year than I did last year but still not enough to fill a whole tree. I thought maybe there would be others like me out there who have been slowly growing their ornament collection.  Hence, the Second Annual Ornament Exchange. (Bare with me while I use the graphics from last year…not much extra time equals no new graphics!)

Partners:: I will pair each participant with one other person.

Cost:: It's free to participate but the ornament you send to your partner must have a minimum value of $5. If you go above and beyond the $5 worth, that is up to you and your partner. Also, if you make or sell ornaments and would like to send one of your own products to your partner that is fine AS LONG AS your product fits your partner's interests (more info about that below).

Shipping:: This gift exchange is open to international participants. I understand that some of you will be interested in items from other countries and some of you would prefer not to pay that much extra for shipping. Please be sure to specify in your comment below if you are willing to be paired with a person from a different country or not.

Schedule:: Sign-ups open today, Monday, November 25th. Sign-ups will close Monday, December 2nd. Partners will be announced Tuesday, December 3rd. Packages must be shipped no later than Tuesday, December 11th so we all have the ornament in time to admire on our tree.

Share + Admire:: If you'd like to share photos of the ornament/package you are sending or receiving feel free to post them on Instagram with the hash tag #ornamentexchange2013. Also, you can share them on your blog and either link back to this blog, comment below with the link, or email me about it. I look forward to sharing some exchanged ornaments when this has finished.

Getting what you want:: The questionnaire includes a section for you to fill out to help your partner pick out or make an ornament that is sure to be something you'll like. So answer the questions thoroughly!

The sign-up:: If you wish to participate in this ornament exchange please fill out the questionnaire below. Please copy and paste the questions into a comment at the end this post or email them to me at jean (dot) emily (at) gmail (dot) com. Submitting the questionnaire is your commitment to follow the guidelines as they have been explained above.

crafty time weekend

Hi folks! Do you ever have one of those days where you are so sick of all the unfinished projects around the house that you feel overwhelmed? I had one of those days today! It was really hard to pick which to work on, but once I did, I had a lot of fun putting them together.
First up was creating some pillows to put up on my shop. It's been sewn and stuffed for months but I finally sewed it shut today. This is the first of many cloud pillows I plan to put in my shop. The ecospun felt is charcoal gray and filled with polyfill. You can see the listing for it here.
Second up was creating the first of a few state-shaped corkboards. I have seen various DIYs of these on Pinterest and ended up with this. I thought I would do Oklahoma in memory of the devastation of the tornados (OK strong!). I really like how it turned out and have a few more states in mind to finish up.

What crafts or projects did you finish up this weekend?

I am flying out in less than an hour to visit my uncles in San Francisco again. The weather has been less than cooperative for flying, so many flights are all jumbled together. While I wait at the airport, I've been downloading images of clothing and home products I would like. Thought I would share them with you folks.

First up, this angel wing/bat wing number. The dress looks very comfortable and if I'm shy about showing a little leg, leggings will go great with these.

As I picked out new clothing items, I found myself gravitating towards off the shoulder necklines. I love the color of this top--especially that touch of red on the hem of the sleeve.

Funky! LOVE LOVE the black and white diagonal stripes with the purple body of the dress.

There's just something about words on dishes that I am in love with. The whole collection of these little plates is perfect.

It's not often that I lust after a necklace. This style has been in for a while and I just keep going back to it.

Another off the shoulder number. Perfect weekend or to dress up for a night out.

I hope you enjoyed looking at these items as much as I did finding them. What else are people looking for this season?

diy tissue covered tea light

I was inspired by this pin that I found on Pinterest a while back. I didn't have a large vase to try this with, but I thought a tea light size candle holder would work just as well. I also had a smaller circle punch for the tissue pieces.

supplies: tealight vase, sponge brush
supplies: paper punch, tissue paper, mod podge, scissors
optional supplies: chocolate chips and cheap beer
cut circles in half to start at the bottom of the glass. mod podge circles onto glass.
finished product that night
finished product in the morning (better light!)

new office curtains

I had bought these curtains from Ikea last weekend, thinking that I might put them in our office at work. I wanted to be sure that my office mate approved first--she did. This past weekend, I finally got around to hemming them. It was the first time that I hemmed curtains, not to mention using Heat 'n' Bond. All went well and easy; I think the hardest part was cutting the panel in half and cutting off the extra fabric from the bottom. I don't have a large table to work with, so I slowly moved it across my coffee table as I cut. (Our window is sort of small, so two panels would have been too much and the length definitely draped across the floor. It needed trimming all around!)
What do you think?

hi, my name is Emily and I'm addicted to washi tape

As if I needed more excuses to buy cute washi tape and more packaging supplies, the Plaid Barn came out with these awesome sets today.

Aren't they cute?!

You can buy a chevron set or a polka dot set...or both! I chose the chevron set.

Also, I hung up the curtains at the office that I hemmed this weekend. I can't wait to share photos of them! It was my first time using Heat 'n Bond in this type of project and it went really well.

gifted fabric

Somehow I ended up with 5 different kinds of fabrics over the past couple of weeks. My co-worker moved and cleared out a lot of her fabric stash. I have been the recipient of of the cleared out fabrics. While I wouldn't necessarily pick these fabrics out myself, I'm not about to look a gift horse in the mouth (gift fabric in the pattern?).

So far I am making a square pouf seat with the upholstery fabric and am contemplating purses, a dolman shirt, pillows and more out of the rest.

What do you think? What would you make?

vintage find: tin easel frame

Hello my friends who are lovers of vintage. Today I listed something different in my shop than I normally do--the gorgeous frame listed below. I painted the frame liner with chalkboard paint, but it is otherwise left untouched.

View the listing here to read a little more about it if you are interested.

Don't forget to enter Janee's giveaway for a chance to win a print of the cows we visited the other week! The giveaway closes in roughly a day.

Remember the post I wrote that included information about a giveaway from the Plaid Barn? I am thrilled to announce that I am one of their affiliates now! Please see the sidebar on the right of my blog (you may need to scroll down a little) to see their ad. They sell craft and diy materials at a deep discount and I have been loving the stuff they have had. I told you guys about the fabric tape and the vintage charm crafting items that I ordered and as soon as they arrive, I will be posting about them.
