fabric window diy

Here is part of my kitchen. There is a little window with some neat glass in it. What is outside of the window? A staircase. A loud, echoey staircase that myself and two other neighbors use. They can't really see me through it, but I still feel like I don't have much privacy in my kitchen, you know? So I thought I would work at covering it up.

Here you can see this window in relation to part of my kitchen. (And no, it's not my choice to have those farm decals be up on the wall! I just can't reach them to take them down.)
Here is what you need:

  1. Fabric of your choice
  2. Cardboard
  3. Fabric glue
  4. Fabric scissors (not pictured)
  5. Box cutter
Be sure to measure the area of the window that you wish to fill with the cardboard. Then measure again to make sure. Next, cut it out with the box cutter. Once you've reached that stage...


Yes, have your dog lay on everything before you cut out the fabric. Once she moves and you're able to cut the fabric to fit the cardboard (with a little overlap so the fabric doesn't uncurl), use the fabric glue to glue the fabric to the cardboard. I assume you could use other glue as well, but this is the one that I used.
And…wa-lah! Fabric privacy window! Push that baby into your window and you're good to go!

my hair

Typically, my hair is changed by impulse. It's been a while since I've had one of these impulses, so my hair has stayed relatively the same for the past few years. Over the past couple of weeks, I have been feeling a change and so searched the internet for hairstyle inspiration. I wanted something short and a little daring, but not too salon-y or Anne Hathaway-esque. I ended up with this:

And I love it! The 1/4 head shave part is the part that I love the most. It's fuzzy and easy. The other side I can do whatever I want with and is generally pretty similar to my prior hair style, but shorter. Also, the messier the better which works well with my get-up-and-go-in-the-morning routine.

On the way home, I wondered if Tater would recognize me. Of course she did! She likes having more access to my right ear for licking, too. Hehe. Here she is, holding down the fabric for me while I cut out  fabric for a blanket. That stinker!

adventures with natural dye

After seeing many DIYs on natural dyeing on Pinterest and various blogs I follow, I came across Chelsey's post about natural dyes. For some reason, I decided at that point that I would try it. I don't know if it was because I already had all of the ingredients mentioned in the blog or it was the gorgeous lamp shade that she made. Either way, I decided to go for it. Although I'm not a big fan of ombre, I knew I could have fun with dyeing my fabric a solid color. The link to the instructions are here at Chelsey's blog the Paper Mama. I've been very impressed with the vibrant color that comes out of this dyeing process. Way to go, Mother Nature!

One of these days I will post "real" photos again, but I cannot promise when. I have been loving Instagram a whole lot lately.

gifted fabric

Somehow I ended up with 5 different kinds of fabrics over the past couple of weeks. My co-worker moved and cleared out a lot of her fabric stash. I have been the recipient of of the cleared out fabrics. While I wouldn't necessarily pick these fabrics out myself, I'm not about to look a gift horse in the mouth (gift fabric in the pattern?).





So far I am making a square pouf seat with the upholstery fabric and am contemplating purses, a dolman shirt, pillows and more out of the rest.
